Let sit, then bang the toothbrush into the bottom of the cup to loosen any deposits. Do not touch the hot cup or plate unless wearing an oven mitt. Rinse off the toothbrush and empty the cup then refill with water and repeat.
To do this with your electric toothbrushes, remove the brush head from the motorized unit and put it into your cup. Completely cover it with water plus half an inch to an inch. If the toothbrush head has some metal in it that is OK as long as the brush head is completely covered with water.
